Licensed Mental Health Counselor

She has over eleven years experience counseling youth, couples and families, as well as providing services to diverse clients, including working with children from six years of age to elderly individuals.

Norma completed her internship at South County Mental Health Center at the Crisis Intervention Adult Unit where she came into contact with chronic psychological and personality disorders such as bipolar mood disorder, schizophrenia, antisocial personality disorder, and borderline personality disorder, among others. Norma began her Registered Internship at Henderson Mental Health Center, where she worked for a year at the Youth and Family Services Department and became well versed with blended family issues as well as adolescence and young adult relational issues, including ADD, ADHD, conduct disorder, behavioral issues, self-mutilators, suicidal ideation, and chronic mental health issues.

Norma began working as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor at Spanish River Counseling Center in 2001 and diversified her experience to include work with pre-marital counseling and integrated work with married couples as well as blended family issues. Norma is certified with the Prepare/Enrich program to work with pre-marital counseling as well as married couples. She is also certified to do Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma resolution and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) issues, as well as the resolution of anxiety and depression. Norma is also certified with Dynamic Marriage to teach and help couples enrich their relationship as well as repair and restore any damage done by affairs or communication among other marital issues. She  is also certified by the State of Florida to supervise Registered Mental Health Interns.

Norma furthered her career when she relocated to Texas in 2006. She became licensed in the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor, where she established her own practice and began her Ph.D. work. She returned to Spanish River Counseling Center in 2009 where she delights in working with pre-marital couples, family dysfunction, blended family issues, single family issues, children of divorced parents, divorce recovery, self esteem issues, grief and loss, anger management, self mutilators, suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety and adjustment disorders, among others. Norma is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in General Psychology with a focus on family, and teaches psychology courses for DeVry University online.
